The New iPad 2

Okay, the rumors have begun. Five features are more or less confirmed:
1. Video phone feature, presumably FaceTime.
2. Thinner glass on the display panels, which could mean it’s slightly lighter.
3. Retina display is coming.
4. A USB connection so you don’t have to use Apple’s proprietary standard.
5. 3-axis gyroscope for improved gaming. This feature is in the iPhone already.
In our opinion, the USB will be the killer. As they say, the possibilities are endless.

Digital Gyro on the iPad?

InformationWeek reports that an empty slot on the iPad could actually be for the digital gyroscop, based on a teardown by UBM TechInsights.
TechInsight’s senior analyst Steve Bitton speculated that the iPad will likely get the gyroscope for a number of reasons. First, the presence of the slot (see images) leads to the obvious conclusion. Moreover, the accelerometer and gyro would likely work together, as well as with the application processor (the processor right above those other two components). Thus having all closely co-located makes sense.

Intel: iPad will be ‘Intel Inside’ some day

While Apple has designed its own processor to power the recently-launched iPad tablet PC, Tom Kilroy, Intel senior vice president and general manager of sales and marketing, said there could be opportunities for Intel in future versions of the iPad.
“They’ve got their product to market right now, and it doesn’t include an Intel chip,” Kilroy said at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in San Francisco on Wednesday.
But, he said, “it would never be like Intel to not want to go discuss and engage Apple to win their business in another intercept point …

Do Not Read on the iPad before you sleep

LATimes has a report that says reading on the iPad before sleep impacts sleep patterns.

Staring at the screen before bed could leave you lying awake. That’s because direct exposure to such abnormal light sources inhibits the body’s secretion of melatonin, say several sleep experts.
Light-emitting devices, including cellphones and yep, the iPad, tell the brain to stay alert. Because users hold those devices so close to their face, staring directly into the light, the effect is amplified compared with, say, a TV across the room or a bedside lamp, said Frisca Yan-Go, director …
