Microsoft: Office for iPad ‘is coming’

12 February 2010 1,220 views No Comment

Microsoft would definitely be participating in the iPad revolution – yesterday, in a private preview of the Office for Mac 2011 suite:

“Yeah, it’s something that we’re looking at,” said Microsoft Senior Product manager Mike Tedesco. “Obviously the announcement (of the iPad) is really fresh and there’s nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today.

This would mean a lot of things:

1. Software vendors hoping to build productivity suites for the iPad can, well, forget it.
2. Once Microsoft gets Office on the iPad right, slowly we’ll see iPad versions/extensions of some pieces of enterprise software as well (this might be a great thing for iPad in the enterprise.
3. This is great news for iPad overall.

Although widely expected, this move is an indication of what Microsoft actually thinks about the iPad, regardless of what Bill Gates thinks about the iPad.
